(4/17/07) For those who envision someone buying WINC-FM or WFRE and moving them to Herndon or Rockville...sorry to burst your bubble. WINC-FM, WFRE, WLTF in Martinsburg and WAYZ in Hagerstown are all solidly locked in their 1961 grandfathered locations. Any attempt to move the transmitter sites would result in such a massive loss of power and coverage (if they could be moved at all under the current rules) that isuch a move would be pointless. (4/17/07) Someone vomited :"Are people paying attention to the ugly crap that Rush is vomiting these days?" Truth hurts dude. Get over it, the cops helped no one yesterday except to carry out bodies. Someone armed in that building could have ended this tragedy with a clean shot between the eyes. But all you narrow-minded Neanderthal libs just don't get it. You are on the wrong side of every issue of importance to society. Reap what you sew. (4/17/07) Regarding the Notable Quote on the front page, Don has been saying that for years on the show. It is nothing new. Of course, let the flood gates unleash. Tim, Gaithersburg (4/17/07) Dave.... Just looked over your list of HD stations you received...where did you get your radio? cost ? I am out near Tysons Corner in a high rise...I might be able to do better. Tim (4/17/07) Dave's response: It's a Directed DHHD-10001 model. I don't know the cost since it was a gift from a local radio guru. I've just installed a Radio Shack "rabbit ear" antenna on the unit and will soon report my improved (?) reception at DCRTV's HD Radio Page. Oh, I did manage to get a few seconds of WTNT's HD signal. So far, that's my sole HD Radio "conquest" on the AM band..... Regarding Don and Mike just “fulfilling a contract”—does it include a clause for them to be paid by the pound? Judging from the some of the photos on their website, it looks like they’re aiming to “break the bank.” CPS. (4/17/07) Ref: WQMR - see you thought it was just me....but NO - first of all it's NOT an Ocean City radio station it's a Snow Hill, Md radio station that wants to be an OC station, and it has to be the biggest joke on the eastern shore - the station just SUCKS....and will always SUCK, period. (4/17/07) WNST’s Nestor Aparicio has finally been granted a granted a press credential……..by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, for tonight’s game against the Orioles in St. Petersburg. Looks like if Aparicio wants to cover the Orioles as a credentialed member of the media, he’ll be racking up the frequent flier miles doing so. (4/17/07) Tom Shedlick didn't "Leap from Clear Channel". He was pushed! Live by the Sword, Die by the Sword! While he was there 8 engineers left that building. Funny didn't his DoE at RZ get forced out as well? And, if he goes to ABC does that mean they will have to get a new IT Director as well? (4/17/07) I have yet to understand why WQMR 101.1 Ocean City even bothers to rerun Powertalk during the early morning hours or any other show prior to 5 am. There isn't a week that goes by that there isn't several minutes of total dead air during what should be commercials. Often the entire show doesnt broadcast but the news break does. If this was a recent problem Id understand but this has been going on for several years. While I enjoy some of the programming enough is enough...... Ill change the dial to another station that can get it right. CC (4/17/07) I hate to be argumentative, but comparing the possible announcing of the closure of VPI over local radio or TV stations to school snow closures is not really a valid comparison. Snow closures are announced hours in advance and for a number of hours, and many people are listening to the radio for just that purpose. This sad event required immediate action. And many students do not listen to the radio or watch TV while getting ready for school. That is not a habit for them at that age. What could have been done, and maybe it was done, was close off every road into and out of the school immediately, if that's even possible. But for a writer to be so cruel about officers' decisions being made for a situation that no one could have expected in such a rural area is, to me, unfair. -- Carl in Olney (4/17/07) Ref: Rush - are we paying attention to what the leftist professors are stuffing in our kids ears? - that is what we should be paying attention too - they don't need a mic, they have 'em one on one, that is what scares me and hopefully you as well - again its not the weapon - its the moron that has access to them and they are available on any street corner if "The Price is Right" and when was the last time there was a shooting at a VFW or American Legion hall? Why, cuz they return fire jerks. (4/17/07) Re: VA Tech and the person who thinks local radio stations should have been contacted. This is not a bad idea; unfortunately very few college aged students listen to stations that would announce this information repetitively. Most have their IPODs plugged in. Actually a better idea would be to use something that many law enforcement agencies use in the DC area. It is called Roam Secure and it can send email messages and text messages to thousands of people in a small amount of time. Every college aged student has a text message receiving cell phone; make sure they sign up at orientation. We know they always have their cell phone with them. One thing we learned during 9-11 was that even though the cell phones were tied up when trying to make calls they still received text messages. Loudoun has it and it is a great way to find out what is going on in the county. Everyone should see if their county has it or something like it and if they do insist that they use it!! (4/17/07) Any else watching Okra’s town hall, interesting that the panelists couldn’t understand how any one could draw a correlation between Imus’ statements and Hip-Hop, so I guess the 1st time I heard the term “nappy” was last week from Imus not in the 60’s from Stevie Wonder. And I guess the 1st time I heard the term “ho” was last week and not from “Mr. Dogg. Damn I never knew the crypt keeper was such an innovator. I thought that was more of Howie’s domain, HOO, HOO Robin I invented nappy headed ho’s. (4/17/07) I was listening to Sgt. Whistledick, the head security guy at Tech explain why it was impossible to lock down the campus and keep folks from showing up in the middle of a massacre, and it struck me that, when it snows, every bloody LOCAL RADIO STATION reports on closings. Maybe, just maybe, the mouth-breathing knuckle-draggers in charge of our children's safety could have called the LOCAL RADIO STATIONS to alert everyone to turn around and go home. One of the lame excuses Whistledick gave was that Tech is such a commuter school, that at 7:30 am, everyone is in their cars, commuting to school. PROBABLY LISTENING TO THE RADIO. If I had a kid in that school, I'd go down and kick his ass personally. Rick (4/17/07) Re: "I thought 87.9 MHz was now 'reserved' for bleedover audio from VHF Channel 6." -- It may be advertised that way, counting on consumer radios' AFC pulling the tuning circuit onto the signal, but the actual sound carrier for TV Channel 6 is 87.75MHz. Given the relatively limited modulation for TV audio (+ or - 25KHz), there is the same 50KHz guard band between TV Channel 6 audio and FM Channel 200 on 87.9MHz. If there is an FM broadcast station on 87.9, then a radio will lock on to that and ignore the TV signal on the lower frequency. And, of course, there won't be any TV audio on 87.75MHz anywhere in the country in less than 2 years anyway. (4/17/07) Your front page headline - "Don't Flip Format When Farhi's On Vacation" - should read, "Don't Count on the Post for ANY Radio Listings". How long are they going to list WTRI as "Christmas/Variety"? They played holiday music non-stop around the same time as WASH-FM & WGMS-FM did and went right back to Contemporary Standards on December 26th like everyone else. And what the hell is "Variety"? That sounds more like a brokered station or a station run by non-radio people with real estate shows one minute, a sports show the next, then a public affairs show then, er...wait...that's WaPo Radio! No wonder they don't keep the listings up to date! - Without WaPo in Wild Western MoCo (4/17/07) An Army of 18 year olds toting firearms, hard to imagine, other than the Army Navy Air Force and Marines. Yeah we trust 18 year olds to: buy homes, vote, drive and own cars, protect our country, but we don’t consider them old enough or mature enough to have a cocktail or beer or carry a fire arm to protect themselves. Just some random thoughts from a 50 year old foggie, who remembers this country was free in my youth. (with credit and appreciation given to the G-man). Do I think it is desirable for all of us to be armed, nah; most of you can’t shoot straight. Just seems to me more wacko’s with firearms are attracted to the hallowed halls of academia that the local VFW. That may be a coincidence but if I were a coward with an agenda I could probably figure the odds of someone else shooting back at me are considerably less in a school. But we continue to blame the guns. We have made them illegal in DC, so certainly there are no firearm deaths there. I have personally removed two fire arms from 2 would be assailants in the district, how did that happen, I thought they were illegal. I personally own 20 or so weapons (including 2 confiscated in DC), and have owned weapons since I was a child, the only time I have aimed any weapon at another human is in defense of this country.. If we want to start banning something lets make it dumb asses, which there seems to be no shortage of either in society or on this board. G (4/17/07) The longer I am on this earth, the less sense it all makes. Why create a world of pain and misery for all of humanity simply because Adam and Eve ate an apple in the Garden of Eden? It all seems a bit beyond excessive to me. This differs from "QRN" which refers to interference from static. Ham radio operators, maritime operators and aeronautical communications use varying forms of "Q" terms. Sincerely, EIB Network..... cc: Iko "The Jitz" Fujitsu Cusco, Hill Valley, CA (4/17/07) Limbaugh said he didn't want to politicize yesterday's VA Tech shootings like the "drive-by media" would. Then the hypocrite went into a spew that maybe the Korean shooter got his anti-American opinions from the lefty professors at Tech. Are people paying attention to the ugly crap that Rush is vomiting these days? He's every bit as disgusting as Imus. (4/17/07) "Another one leaves the USS Red Zebra. DCRTV hears that DC radio technical veteran Tom Shedlick resigned yesterday as director of engineering for Redskins owner Dan Snyder's Red Zebra broadcasting arm" That means that of the 15 original core programming, sales and engineering folk that were hired a year ago, only 6 remain. (4/17/07) Yeah, put "God" in the schools and arm the students. Problem solved. Right, Rush, right. (4/17/07) Dave: You are spot on target regarding WTOP running commercials during the tragic unfolding of the Virginia Tech story yesterday. It was a poor decision at best. As far as WTOP not running commercials for three days during the 9/11 story, it should be noted that very few, if any stations ran commercials during that period because the clients pulled the spots. Most commercials didn't come back until the next week and some never returned. (4/17/07) I punched around quite a bit today listening to the Virginia Tech coverage on the radio. Sad state of affairs when the most responsible are WTOP and DC101. I expect it from TOP. Not so much from Elliott In The Morning. But, it was great. (4/17/07) When did a 9mm and 22 cal pistol become assault weapons... Will this be classified as a hate crime due to the shooter being Asian? Probably not unless the majority of the victims are black, oh wait its impossible for a hate crime to be committed unless the perpetrator is white. (4/17/07) Rush Limpbag argued today that the Virginia Tech massacre wouldn't have happened if college kids weren't prohibited from carring guns on campus, and they could have shot back. Can you imagine the potentil carnage nationwide if we had an army of 18-year-old kids toting firearms on university campuses! Amazingly stupid! THG (4/17/07) I thought 87.9 MHz was now "reserved" for bleedover audio from VHF Channel 6. It's even advertised as such in cities that have a Channel 6. If you've ever been to Richmond the last 2-3 years, you hear radio spots that go something like "On the road and missing out on your favorite TV programs as well as up-to-the-minute news and weather? Now you don't have to. WTVR 6 can be heard at 87.9 on your FM dial." Of course, there's no D.C. area station at that freq, but I've often picked up WTVR and occasionally WPVI in Philly there (usually faint, but wait till those hot summer mornings begin). Their QRM's gonna give NPR listeners a major headache. KOF (4/17/07) Re: Typical - you can't defend the points of the message so you revert to attacking the individual.... //// You deserve to be attacked. Why would I spend time defending your extraneous and inappropriate points? That is your job. I disagree with you, defend yourself. Now isn't the time for your cheap political slogans, trying to tie in your political beliefs into a tragedy which is still being investigated. You mentioned Truth, well...why don't you let the whole situation come to light before we hear about Abortion and School Prayer, and your other pet ideological issues. How about you answering that? That was the salient point, you moron. Before we follow the tortured and twisted sociological flow chart down the issues which are foremost in your mind, isn't it more likely that issues like gun control and campus security will be bandied around by the media, politicians, and the public at large? (4/17/07) dave...a somewhat inappropriate dig at Bonneville for running commercials yesterday, especially considering their excellent coverage. But these days, it isn't surprising from you. I worked for them on 9/11. WTOP didn't run a single commercial for at least 3 days. And they have done the same thing multiple times since then. Let someone give a deserving compliment without injecting your obvious subjective opinion. (4/17/07) Dave's response: My criticism stands. Bonneville couldn't give the all-news "cash cow" a rest even during the two or three hours when the crisis news was breaking yesterday afternoon. If TV news stations/networks can do it, why not news radio, too? "Not once did I hear any news outlet suggest that maybe it's the SHOOTER who bears ultimate responsibility for this outrage." If the underlying issues of violence and gun availability in America are swept under the rug yet again instead of being delved into, how can we expect to prevent future repetitions of the horrific events in Blacksburg? Hopefully TV and cable news outlets will act responsibly and provide relevant issue oriented discussions and commentaries instead of endless emotional exploitation over the next two or three weeks, but I'm not holding my breath. It's interesting that two afternoon drive sports radio shows took contrasting approaches to dealing with the VA Tech shootings yesterday. The mood of John Riggins' program on Triple X was somber and reflective as he spent most of the time talking about the tragedy and taking calls. Meanwhile over at WTEM, Andy Pollin and Steve Czaban devoted one segment on Sports Reporters to it and then moved on to chatting about routine sports topics with the usual levity and jocularity. I found it especially inappropriate that they chose not to postpone a discussion of HBO's latest Sopranos episode until another day, because that's a show which portrays violence as a means of solving everyday problems. Mike, Fairfax (4/17/07) A talented engineer - yes. A work-a-holic - absolutely. A good guy - only in a Chucky from Child's Play sorta way. Remember how long the last DOE he worked for lasted. "Beware of the handshake - that hides the snake." - smiling faces (4/17/07) Too bad Eye on Washington is going away. Have you noticed that John Mcglauglin's One on One show has been missling, lately, as well? Why run Entertainmet Tonight on weekends? Does it get ratings? As far as entertainmet shows go, I wonder why they always run Ebert & Roeper late at night. No audience for the show? When is Ebert returning to the air? JOHN IN STAFFORD (4/17/07) The reason the WAMU application has been around so long is that it was mutually exclusive with an application by WOLC (they operate as a non-comm in the commercial band)for 88.3. My understanding is that rather than have a station on this side of the bay running 50kw next to them, they decided to apply for it. This is one of those non-comm disputes that the FCC has been thinking about! By the way, WSDL runs some of the same programming as WAMU, so that should be interesting. Four stations running Morning Edition and All things Considered (WSCL,WSDL,WESM and this WAMU clone). The good thing is that we may finally get a station running HD Radio multicasts. (4/17/07) As a post script to my entry about Tony Burrows, I had said that he was a former Beatles Press Officer. In fact it was Tony BARROW. When I'm wrong I admit it. Rusty Gibson (4/17/07) I bet Tom Shedlick has some interesting stories to tell from his Red Zebra ordeal. (4/17/07) "Shedlick wasn't the guy for those signals anyway...he wasn't tall enough to hold the coat hanger at the top of the tower." That didn't work as Snyder had hoped. I hear they're trying little balls of aluminum foil now. (4/17/07) Screw "Eye On Washington"! Bring back Henry Tennenbaum and "PM Magazine"! www.80stvthemes.com (4/17/07) Congratulations to Tom Shedlick. Tom is one of the last good guys in the business and a talented engineer. He deserves to be around some decent human beings. Shedlick wasn't the guy for those signals anyway...he wasn't tall enough to hold the coat hanger at the top of the tower. (4/17/07) So Channel 9 is pulling a locally produced weekend show because, "Its focus is largely national politics, and our mission is really serving the Washington community." It's being replaced, along with the Saturday half-hour local newscast that followed it, by Entertainment Tonight. And how is that serving the Washington community? Not even a "hmmmmmm" from you Dave? (4/17/07) Dave's response: Are you suggesting that I lace DCRTV's newsblurbs with my personal opinions? How dare you! Ha ha ha..... Never mind "Eye on Washington" for a second. WUSA's GM actually trotted out a line about serving the Washington community while dropping a half-hour of local news in favor of more entertainment news schlock. That takes nerve! Everett W. (4/17/07) Bravo to Tony Kornheiser for having the guts to mention the "g-word" on his show this morning regarding the VA Tech shootings. He doesn't want to ban them, but do we really need people with easy access to assault weapons roaming our college campuses and shopping malls!!!!! - Jim K (4/17/07) Dave's response: I can't listen to Tony any more. His lipsmacking makes him unlistenable. To me anyway. Intensely irritating..... "You are one sick individual, to reduce the tragedy with your narrow political points." Typical - you can't defend the points of the message so you revert to attacking the individual. It would be great if some day we could have a civil debate on issues like this. Also, I agree with others comments on aspects of the media coverage. I find it helpful to watch a few segments and then turn off the TV or radio. There's just way too much garbage being presented as real news. Here's to hoping this day is a little brighter. (4/17/07) Regarding "NPR looking for new space", surely this thought has occurred to others? When XM and Sirius merge, XM moves to New York and hands the keys to their current plant over to NPR. Is that a good fit, or what? -Pilot of the Airwaves (4/17/07) Was listening to Pollin and Czaban last week on WTEM and the guest was Mike Wise, WaPo sport's columnist, Pollin and Czaban got on Wise with regards to that joke of a column that Kornholio and Wilbon have on page 2 these days. Czaban went on the talk about the dumbing down of sport's writing these days. Holy carp have you seen how small the issues of Sport's Illustrated have become?Wise says that the readers of todays WaPo are demanding a dumbing down of the newspapers sport's section. Todays readers can't handle the sport's writing in the tradition of Shirley Povich. But then Wise complained about the nature of the writing in blogs were posters trade snide and vicious remarks. Hey Wise you dumb down the paper to attract us dummies what kind of behavior do you think us dummies are going to practice in the blogs? I think somebodies wattage ain't too bright and I ain't talking to somebody else......I visited WFAN on Saturday afternoon to download a few Imus podcasts, for old times sake, went back today and it had all been swept clean, only thing left was the I-man's pathetic attempt at an apology from April 9th. So what time did Bernard, Charles and Lou wake up yesterday and were their heads still spinning, Wha' Happened? I'm gonna miss the I-man, my morning routine has been disrupted, what to do, Junkies, nah too boring, Weasal, nah the happy talk just makes me sad, Jack Diamond, please, ah "Angel" reruns on TBS and there's always the Grease on 1160 am Hobble de gee (4/17/07) What's really fascinating about the coverage of today's tragedy at VT is how quickly the talking heads began playing the blame game. Scanning among the local TV channels, the national news nets, local radio and web sites, you could already see the blame scenarios being framed: 1) It's VT's fault for not alerting students to the first shootings sooner; 2) It's the Commonwealth of Virginia's fault because firearms are too easy to buy and own there; 3) It's Bush & the Republicans fault for not enacting tougher national gun laws (but not to worry, the now-Democrat-controlled Congress will move swiftly to remedy that); 4) It's parents' fault for allowing kids to watch and play violent movies and video games. At least one outlet even interviewed the Fat Bastard himself, Michael Moore, as some kind of expert on the subject simply because he made a movie about Columbine. Not once did I hear any news outlet suggest that maybe it's the SHOOTER who bears ultimate responsibility for this outrage. What a painful, heartbreaking day this was. And what a sad, infuriating state our national and local news clowns have turned the Fourth Estate into. (4/17/07) Use the FCC website search tools to look up stations on 87.9 MHz, then click on one of the stations. After listing the station information, it adds, "*** Use of Channel 200 87.9 MHz is restricted to existing displaced full service Class D noncommercial educational stations. See 47 CFR 73.501. Channel 200 is not available for use by other station classes and services.***" Nice to see that the FCC ignored their own rules for two of the currently licensed stations plus the upcoming NPR license. WMUC applied to use 87.9 MHz twice, and twice the FCC denied the change. (4/17/07) /\ April 17 Messages /\ ![]() \/ April 16 Messages \/ who in fuck is rich little? (4/16/07) WXLK's Danny and Zack are great guys and I am sure they will do an excellent job with the coverage of the tragedy at VA Tech. JP in fredericksburg (4/16/07) RE: [ " The WAMU application for 88.3 in Ocean City was filed ELEVEN (11) years ago. " ]........ Yes, but the application accepted for filing now has been edited and re-submitted, and the trustees names from AU have been updated, so this is not just a clerical error. They must have abandoned the idea years ago and now have changed their mind. (4/16/07) "Dear Don Geronimo, Guns are not the reason, it is society in general." Bit by bit the values that made this country great are being eroded. But, look at what happens to those who try to point this stuff out. (4/16/07) Dave's response: As Tom Gavin says - "Watch it." We're getting off topic here. Keep it to radio and TV stuff..... Dear Don Geronimo, Guns are not the reason, it is society in general. Fatherless families, unsupervised kids, and overall denial that there is a problem with violence in this country. The gun ban in DC has done nothing, the death rate there makes it almost as dangerous as Baghdad. Critics will say that DC’s murder rate is because of neighboring states that allow guns. Well, we live in a world market including an incredible black market. Guns would still get into the hands of those who want to do wrong. Someone needs to look at the rate teens are involved in felony crimes. It has more then doubled in most of the DC metropolitan counties, even the affluent ones. (4/16/07) FYI...It's bad enough that 32 people are dead at Virginia Tech in a two-hour rampage by a crazed gunman, but then CNN has to make it worse by counting down the gunshots heard in a cellphone video captured by a bystander. It's been a very painful day here in southwest Virginia. One of the local TV stations in Roanoke (WSLS) is offering a help line to anyone affected by the Virginia Tech tragedy. We live about 70 miles from Blacksburg and my station, WYTI, has been providing updates to the public here in Rocky Mount. I was slated to volunteer on Virginia Tech's campus station, WUVT last summer, but sadly distance became a factor. Mike is so right that this tragedy puts everything in perspective. Love and blessings. Joyce Conroy (WHFC/WYTI) (4/16/07) I understand the insensitivity of the question, that being said, if Imus had survived until today would he have kept his job? (4/16/07) I know this is not a media issue--but I need to exercise my right as an American and Human to vent for a moment, so please bare with me. As I am watching the coverage of the VT shooting today, I am disgusted. I am disgusted with this crime and with our culture. Before you begin to attack, hear me out. I am young, a college student. I can not fathom why or how someone would take a life, or even 32. A college is a place of education, a place where dreams are built and realized. Today, this college campus was the death place of thousands of dreams. Dreams of the students and faculty who lost their lives today were crushed, the dreams of loved ones were crushed and the dreams of students who might not have known and now never will know the students who lost their lives were crushed. This is a situation that is almost impossible and may be impossible to recover. I thought to myself today, for the first time, it must be hard for a parent to bring a child into this world-full of hatred, crime and death. When a atmosphere designed for learning turns into a mass grave--how can anyone look for peace and hope in this society. I'm sorry for sounding so depressing about this, but if you stop and think for a moment---you may feel the same way. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families, friends and students of VT. I am not able to feel the loss of fear that you may have felt today...and I hope that I never have to, but my heart goes out to each person affected by this sickening situation. I don't know how to verify this and it seems hard to imagine, but according to recnet.com, WX3NPR, NPR's experimental station on 87.9 FM will be a full power FM station. Maybe it's a typo, I dunno, and who knows for how long, but if it's true, that and WYPR 88.1 Baltimore's signal upgrade would definitely spell the end of WMUC 88.1 probably both off AND ON CAMPUS. The band itself was a one hit wonder group of British session guys that was the brain child of former Beatles Press Officer Tony Burrows. Whomever sent this original post, it looks like we're both on the same page! Rusty Gibson (4/16/07) We know that Tony Kornheiser does not like fellow Postie Paul Farhi or the paper's ombudsman. But Washington Post Radio owner Bonneville's lawyers really should take a serious look at when Kornheiser uses the term "kill" on the air, even jokingly, against those he does not like, as he did this morning. He is taking the station and himself into potential lawsuit territory. Throw-away jokes like that have been know to ruin radio careers. The media "professional" that he is, Tony ought to know better. (4/16/07) "How do we know that "he could not raise" the money to buy 104.1? Maybe he just didn't like the sticker price" Red Zebra came to terms to buy the station (that part of the story doesn't seem to be in dispute since Red Zebra was all around town saying excatly that). the Zebra's trotting around town telling everyone, clients and media, that it was a done deal, that they FINALLY have a signal. Then nothing. But yet the station was eventually sold...demonstrating Bonneville intention. So what happened at Red Zebra? Maybe the horrible first year opened Danny's eyes. Ironically, the deal to buy 104.1 coincided with the end of the year. right about when Danny's henchmen realized how much money they were losing. That was when the first wave of layoffs happened. Their first year performance would have made many weary about spending $45 Million on a not so perfect signal. (4/16/07) I just wanted to say "thank you" to the mailbag poster who complained about the ad for "The God Who Wasn't There". I had never heard of it, and it looks like an interesting film. (4/16/07) Dave's response: Speaking of movies, I did catch "The Namesake" at the Cinema Arts yesterday - hello Ben! Nice flick with the India Indian guy from "Harold And Kumar"..... People are missing the reason Snyder didn't buy 104. The price was right, but the debt service didn't fit in the business plan. He thinks he can generate 30 million a year with that format! The guy can raise as much money as he wants and 45 million was no problem. Snyder got in to broadcast radio with little or no knowledge about the business end and he had very poor advisors who told him what he wanted to hear. The leading communications attorney in Washington told him not to buy those three pea shooters for any price and he did it anyway. Snyder and his group of well healed "yes men" are not very bright when it comes to the radio world. Then again, how is that Six Flags investment working for you Danny? About as well as the Tom Cruise fiasco and the future destruction of Johnny Rockets. (4/16/07) Somebody wrote, "Google ad content is derived from cookies that are stored on YOUR computer, not Dave's server. So whatever YOU are surfing for DB, is what google ads are reading and trying to cater to your tastes." That's not right. Google ad content is based on the subject matter of the web page on which the ad appears. The ad in question was for a DVD; hence, the ad appeared on a media-related site. (A little bit of a stretch, perhaps, but it all falls under the general category of "entertainment".) Google does not read anything on the end user's computer to determine ad content. (Want proof? Delete your cookies, close your browser, then open a new browser window and surf back to DCRTV. You'll see most of the same ads that were there before you deleted your cookes.) I did see the ad on my work PC, and I can guarantee you I have never Googled anything even remotely similar to the content of the ad. I didn't click on it, but from what I saw I do have to agree with the original poster - it was pretty offensive. Brian (4/16/07) This keeps getting repeated but it is not true. Imus did not himself call Gwen Ifill the cleaning lady. As he tried to explain on Sharpton's show, but couldn't because he was being talked over, he had a "bit" where he had one of the two guys that did all of the different voices played a David Duke character who said that wasn't it nice that NBC allowed the "cleaning lady" to cover the Reagan White House. So it was really a knock at the Reagan administration. It is the same to me as if one of the Saturday Night Live actors played the David Duke role on a televised skit and said this. No one would think the actor is racist. It was part of the comedy of Imus' show. That is not to say that Imus may have crossed the line at times. But I guarantee most of the people who are bashing Imus never once listened to the show, so they don't know what they are talking about. Imus bashed everybody. This was regardless of race, gender, political affiliation, etc. On 60 Minutes tonight, they mentioned that Imus called Newt Gingrich "a piece of roadkill". Imus and McGuirk just picked on a target this time that did not have a way to defend themselves. They were 18 year old girls and he was a 66 year old man. (4/16/07) Well I guess Elliott Francis is gone from Newschannel 8 and WJLA but has James Adams over at channel 4 left the building ?. I don't believe I've seen him in several weekends?.....Well surprise, surprise I was going to the store on Saturday afternoon when I said to meself why not see if 950 AM was back on the air and by doggies it was. In addition to lots of 4 Tops songs(I'm in heaven when I hear Levi Stubbs sing) I heard that great Edison Lighthouse song of so long ago played twice in a half hour( I had my fingers crossed, bam!) "Love Grows Where My Rosemary Goes" What other songs of note did the vocalist for Edison Lighthouse also sing on you '70's rock trivia freaks?........AMC ran a favorite Jon Voight movie "Conrack". For those still on the Imus bandwagon, now what? Another weasal like move I see in Ann Marie Cox, who I believe is a WaPo blogger, another frequent guest on Imus show now condemning him. Just to spelt it out I think if you don't approve of what his style was why do you appear on the show or challenge Imus when some sh9t poured out of his mouth? In the end money talks and hypocrisy rules along with that? I think AMC is showing a lot wider variety of movies the last few years than folks think. Late night/ early mornings has them showing many old black and whites from the '40's and 50's and of course Saturday morns are devoted to old westerns. Heck almost like channel 5 in my yute. Frankly, TCM has a tendency to show the same movies over and over again despite the claimed huge film library. I presume this is a ratings ploy by the folks who run TCM. I can't think of the last time I turned on TCM late late night and they were showing a really good movie. Gimme more noir, see! (4/15/07) That rattling sound you hear is the death rattle for Shock Jocks on corporate terrestrial radio. A few may survive, for a while, with a much tightened leash. A few may survive as local entities, and a few, very few, will migrate to SatRad. The honchos at CBS have to be sweating bullets about what an investigation of Imus will bring to light. Add the previous run ins with the FCC over Stern, Greaseman, etc., and there certainly seems to be a case for a lack of corporate due diligence on the part of CBS management. Perhaps the FCC would find that the management at CBS instructed their air people to “push the envelope” as far as they could. A finding of a pattern of abuse by CBS could result in some very big fines or even the loss of a license or two. That could result in some very big people at CBS being tossed off the top of Black Rock without their golden parachutes. Clear Channel, Cumulus and the others are watching, and bringing out the muzzles. Look for “Hot Talk” to cool to lukewarm talk and a renewed preference for MOHD with disembodied voices. Mel Karmazin also has to be aware that if things get too hot on SatRad, the FCC may remember that they have jurisdiction over that too. The Ol' PD (4/15/07) Re: Rod Daniels -- Last night at the end of Friday's 6pm newscast, Marianne Banister reported that many people have been e-mailing to ask about Rod Daniels. This morning whatever female anchor was doing the overnight sports and said that the Nats would face the Mets in New York today. The very next segment was the weatherman who talked about a huge storm that would affect the entire northeast with flooding rains. Obviously no game. This evening at 6pm a reporter was on the scene of a flooded road in Annandale and she stuck a mike in the front seat of an SUV and interviewed some bozo soccermom who dismissed the flowing water ahead by saying that her SUV could make it even though the water deterred other people. The very next segment was the weatherman who advised never to try to cross a flooded road. And yes, I'm a mid 30's white guy who grew up listening to Kool Moe Dee, Run DMC, LL, Dana Dane, Kurtis Blow, etc etc etc. "Ho" was around well before Snoop Dogg (yes, two "g's"). I thought Eddie Murphy really brought it into the main stream on SNL years ago. In any case, it still doesn't answer the question. If it WAS/IS a racist comment...why did Rutgers trot out one of their two WHITE players to address the controversy. Still seems to me they were more upset about being called "ho's" than being called "nappy headed". So here is the questions...what if Imus had just said "yeah..those are some nappy headed chicks" or "those are some nappy headed girls" that morning? I bet he'd still be employed.... (4/15/07) I do not know why I was thinking about this, but do you still do the Craig Coleman "Show"? (4/15/07) Dave's response: No. It seems that even Craig Coleman doesn't do the Craig Coleman "show" anymore..... Re:"Could WJFK get great ratings if it switched to an all heavy metal format, focusing on the various hardore elements of that musical genre?" There are MANY sub-genres of metal, some more radio friendly than others. Power Metal is probably the one I'd pick for a radio format. There are a large number of bands out there who perform and record this sort of music, though most of them are European (the vast majority sing in English). I think it would go well over here in the US, but do you really think radio conglomerates such as Clear Channel and CBS Radio would play it? I highly doubt it. Why? Because of payola - both legal and illegal - with the top record companies (EMI, Warner, Sony/BMG, Universal, etc.). Most Power Metal music is on indie labels (Century Media & Nuclear Blast are the largest metal labels) and I don't think CC or CBS would deal with these small labels. I've been a fan of Power Metal for the last 2 years and I *rarely* listen to mainstream radio anymore except for WTOP news. Its a shame that there is so much of this music out there waiting to be played on American radio that no one is willing to do so. Oh well, back to my iPod. Commercial free and without all the bull. Dave in Fredericksburg (4/15/07) I really don't want to get involved in this (somebody please stop me!), but nope, the word "ho" IS dependent on race as well. At least according to Snoop Dog. Obviously you do not listen to rap or hip hop. Now a similar word "whore" would not necessarily be race dependent. But on a more important note, I'm amazed at how every interest group wants a piece of this man that nobody has ever heard or cared about before. Quick, QUICK, rush to be the victim. No pushing or jumping in line please. There's room for everybody these days. Now all women and African Americans, all at once, CRY. Ok, it's done, that's good, now can we all get on with our lives for christ sake? Geesh. The real victim here is John/Jane Q Public, who's forced to listen/see this meaningless crap saturating every form of media over and over and over! ENOUGH ALREADY! Joe Crabby (4/15/07) How come nobody has brought up this point concerning Imus. He insulted the women's team at Rutgers, no question. What he said was insensitive, etc etc. But why is it being considered racist when the people he insulted, the women's team at Rutgers, had a caucasian player speak for them at their press conference? Why was Sharpton, Jackson, etc even involved at all? This was not a racist comment, it was a sexist comment. By their own admission, the Rutgers team took all elements of race out of the situation by having a white player speak for them at the press conference. The key word(s) that Imus said wasn't "nappy-headed", it was "ho", which isn't dependent on race, it's dependent on gender. How all the media missed this big point is beyond me, but I imagine it is because they were too busy falling all over themselves to put jackasses like Sharpton and Jackson on their airwaves. No name, I don't need the hassles..... (4/15/07) Dave, the Google ad for "The God Who Wasn't There" movie is theophobic and insulting. I thought you had higher standards than that. I was prepared to make another donation, but since you are apparently getting paid to run ads which denigrate and disrespect the beliefs of at least some of your readers, I can only assume you don't need my money. -DB (4/15/07) Dave's response: DCRTV has no direct control over the individual ads that Google serves on the site. Frankly, I don't know why Google is delivering religious ads to a radio/TV news and gossip website in the first place. Their advertising methods are a mystery to me..... These comments made by Imus are fair representation of many Liberal Democrats. You had Howie Dean make the comment about only way a Republican get a room full of minorities is by bring in the hotel wait staff and cleaning people. As for the Jew Boy comment I have heard rumors that Sen. Clinton also use those to refer to Republican Jews. Which comes to my point IMUS have gotten a pass for the past 40 years because he is a Liberal Dem. STOP CALLING HIM A CONSERVATIVE … He opposes the War in Iraq and Suported Kerry in 04… he is a greenie like Gore… So, since when have racial slurs by dems ever been a bad thing. Didn’t the dems in Western Virginia run posters of Sen. Allen as Mocockowitz … Andrew (4/15/07) On Meet The Press this morning, John Harwood of the WSJ called Opie and Anthony's radio show "disgusting" and "ridiculous." A pretty fair observation, I think. (4/15/07) Sunday Briefing weblink is here: www.washingtonpost.com... Yep, it’s a bitch to find. And you really should ream Pearlstein a new one for inflating Imus’ numbers by a factor of 10 (I’ve seen 2.3 million bandied about as his listenership by credible sources). (4/15/07) According to Steven Pearlstein's column in my Sunday Washington Post, Imus's anti-Semitic comment wasn't aimed at Tony Kornheiser, it was aimed at Howard Kurtz. -- Bobbie (4/15/07) Dave's response: Damn, it must be Post Dyslexia. I mean to write "Howard Kurtz" and "Tony Kornheiser" comes out. I mean to write "Paul Farhi" and my fingers pound out "Frank Ahrens." And vice versa. They interact well together, and actually provide a enjoyable view of the game. Keep it going.... B. in PA (4/15/07) I got this from urbaninsite.com... A Message to Al Sharpton www.youtube.com (415/07) Don Imus' racist comments were asinine and hurtful, but how can you expect Whites to truly appreciate how such language is poisonous and hurtful when they see these exploitative videos where Black men treat their women with contempt and they hear the street talk where the "N" word is casually used as a term of endearment? Should he have been fired? Yes, if only for stupidity. Of course, if that standard was universal in the broadcasting world, there'd be a lot of dead air on the radio and lots of test patterns on TV. Anyway, the issue of racism in this form cannot be addressed until intellectual honesty prevails. Simply put, those in Black America who are offended by the likes of Imus and "Greaseman" Trachtman and others who suffer from foot-in-mouth disease must indulge in some serious introspection and intellectual honesty. As an aside, I think an even more egregious offense is for White America to assume that Sharpton, Jackson, et al speak for all of Black America. They most certainly do not. (4/15/07) Could WJFK get great ratings if it switched to an all heavy metal format, focusing on the various hardore elements of that musical genre? It seems to me that the male demo they're aiming for would stay tuned. That stuff sells millions of CD's and concert tickets every year with minimal airplay. JOHN IN STAFFORD (4/15/07) I caught the tail end of CBS Radio News on the hour and heard the bomb shell that one of Don Imus's "nappy headed 'hos" had just died. Oh... wait a minute... maybe that was DON Ho who just died. Did he ever play basketball for Rutgers? (4/15/07) On my way up the dial to 980 AM, I noticed 950 WCTN was back on the air this morning. Snyder is not naive when it comes to dealing with local authorities. WAGE's proposed new day site move in with WXTR - it's less than two miles away. (4/15/07) Why do news anchors, knowing full well that there is a major rain storm hitting the east coast, insist on talking about a Nats game that will never be played? I know that on the weekend the sports is pre-taped at night but I am talking about the actual news people. (4/15/07) All this stuff about Space Man Dan(Snyder) trying to buy WMAL is pure hogwash!! If he could not raise the 45 million to buy 104.1, how is he going to raise at least 60 million to buy WMAL. As for reports that he "Lusts After WMAL," Let's get real, there is not a station owner between Phladelphia and Atlanta who still has any interest in AM at all who wouldn't love to have WMAL. It is the ONLY AM signal in the DC metro area that can actually compete with the mainstream FM stations. The secret to buying ANY radio station is to pay more for it than it's worth, then increase the value to where it's worth more than you paid. Do you suppose it's possible to do that with any AM in the region right now? If it is, you would want to look more toward WRVA, or WTAR! Yes, Jackson apologized for the hymietown comment. I don’t know what Jackson and Sharpton have to apologize for in the Duke lacrosse case. All the comments I searched for regarding that case were in defense of the accuser, but they both seemed very guarded about what they said about the accused players. The only thing slightly derogatory Jackson accused them of was being “privileged” and I’m pretty sure that’s true. If you have proof they said something inflammatory, I’m willing to listen. I’ve noticed this: anytime the “Duke three” do press, they rarely let Colin Finnerty talk or take questions. Why? He copped a guilty plea to assault in DC. It look sbad if one of them is a bad boy. They want sainthood. The Duke lacrosse players may not appear on Oprah, but they have had two appearances on SIXTY MINUTES, and last time I checked that audience was still greater than Oprah’s. Are you happy now? Look, I’m not taking sides here, folks, but there’s this little thing you may have heard of called the internet. There is an old adage that says if we don’t learn from our history we are bound to repeat it. Lets examine the facts, does anyone remember an “Apology Tour” when Stern called Air Florida, when Donnie G got popped for toot or when O&A sponsored the bang-athon at St. Pats. Has Rosie apologized for her CHING CHANG CHONG comment? Does anyone remember a single apology for the Heimytown from the REVEREND Jackson? Did REVEREND Al apologize to the 6 white men including police officers that he accused of raping Tawana Brawley even after she admitted to fabricating the story? Have either of the REVERENDS apologized to the RAPIST Duke Lacrosse players, hum. Now Mr. Imus and Greaseman have both groveled made the apology tour and yet they were fired. Our lesson from this when one of us says something insensitive, against a minority group, female or sexual proclivity, either shut the F up or come out and directly say F you, yes I said it, and I may say it again. You may still lose your job but at least you still have your dignity. Our founding fathers understood the value of an unregulated press, which is why we have freedom of speech and freedom of the press. Many soldiers have given their lives to guarantee these rights. We shouldn’t take them lightly, as the 4th estate it is our duty to protect these rights, to the best of my knowledge, nowhere does it say freedom of speech, unless it’s rude, insensitive or stupid. Will they have to pay off the whole five year $50,000.000 contract? I doubt it. Would it be so wrong if they did have to pay him off, on a moral level? No. They knew what they were getting when they signed him. He's been loose tongued on race, and every other concievable subject, for many years. They gambled that he would bring in ad money and not say something stupid enough to cost them the cash cow his former advertisers brought them. Same goes for all the advertisers. Like they don't know what Imus has been saying on the air all these years. Sometimes people lose when they gamble. So, if they have to pay Imus big buck to go away, tough fucking shit. As for the other topic that poster addressed, the high pay of public television and radio executives, there's a good way to solve it. Get rid of public televison and radio. JOHN IN STAFFORD (4/14/07) Back from the 1940's to the middle 1970's, my antenna brought in three Baltimore stations and four Washington stations. Working nights, the only station during the day you could watch was WTTG or watch soap operas on the networks. After I moved to Pennsylvania and got cable, we had no more Washington stations. I really missed the Channel 5 News at ten-o'clock. This week-end, I spent time in Shippensburg, Pa. COMCAST there carried the Lancaster station and the Harrisburg stations. In addition, they carried all the Washington stations plus NBC 25 in Hagerstown. I really enjoyed seeing the news on all those stations.I caught Tony Pann who used to be on WBAL a long time ago. I finally saw Maureen Bunyan who everybody talks about on here. I was hoping to see Sue Palka but she was not there. I remember seeing her when I still had a antenna. Well, NPR received its experimental permit for FM 87.9 in the DC area. Another missed opportunity for WMUC 88.1. I'm definitely not going to feel sorry for them when WYPR 88.1 cranks up the power and wipes them off the air outside of the UM campus. It doesn't appear as if their crack engineering staff has really been investigating any options other than attempting to wage a rather false PR campaign against Baltimore's WYPR. (4/14/07) Hi Dave, Regarding your HD Radio Purchase, I don't know what brand that you bought. I purchased the recently Ibiquity- certified Radiosophy Multistream HD radio for 269.00 There are now two available, there is a less exprensive smaller one called the HD 100 for 119.95. I am sure that I got the most bang for my buck with this one. But reception is always a consideration when you purchase an HD radio. Like me, your home is a fringe area for the closest HD FM signals. If you have a 75 OHM slip on connection on the back of your radio, I recommend Radio Shack's VHF/UHF/HD/FM antenna for 32.95. With a 22DB amplifier and gain control, it makes the difference, between disappointment and joy... Norm ( from 25 miles NW of Boston) (4/14/07) Dave's response: It's a Directed DHHD-10001. I don't know the cost because it was a gift from someone in the local radio biz. It comes with the standard loose wire FM antenna and AM wire loop. I'm 15 miles west of DC and can get all of the DC area FM stations' HD Radio signals (I have to manipulate the FM wire a bit to get weaker WMMJ's HD) but none of the AM HD signals. My strongest AMer, WMAL, doesn't do HD yet, apparently. If it did I probably could get it. I'm about 50 miles southwest of Baltimore and have had no luck with any of their HD signals, although I get good analog reception of the strongest FMers, like 98 Rock, WBJC, WLIF, and WQSR..... I'd dump NFL Network in a heartbeat if I could get Comcast Philly out here. I thought Adelphia's departure would be a mostly good thing. The sad fact about this MASN-Comcast fight that has the Shenandoah Valley in the cross-hairs is that Comcast apparently does not understand the market it has injected itself into, at least the northern part of the valley. More and more people are moving out here (grrrrrrrrr) and commuting to DC for work, but we've had the bulk of our media from Washington for decades. I'm listening to the game right now over the air on Washington Post radio, and WINC-1400 is an Orioles affiliate. Before the change to CBS, you could also hear the O's on WBAL is you wanted to. THESE ARE LOCAL BASEBALL TEAMS. Major League Baseball blacks them out of EVERYTHING, even MLB.tv because we're "supposed" to get them from MASN. Frankly, I don't care about what happens in Harrisonburg. But here, an hour from town, this has become an outer suburb. If it weren't for cable Internet and the fact I'm in an apartment, I'd probably dump Comcast for DirecTV yesterday. But it's all falling on deaf ears, so I give up. Looks like both teams are going to suck anyway. Charles in Winchester (4/14/07) Here's link to N.Y. On a good day, with the wind blowing the right direction, the A contour reaches almost a half mile to the east of the tower. Problem is that 3/4 of that half mile is either wine vineyards or corn and soy bean fields, thereby limiting their potential viewership to a coupla thousand eyeballs, most of them ground hogs and crows. A program schedule has yet to be announced. The original plan called for the station to reach into Lewes, Rehoboth Beach and Dewey Beach with 20,500 watts, but due to financial difficulties the low power station opted for low, low power to get on the air prior to May 5 to save its' CP from expiration. ULLMAN, also known as "Mr. Shock and Awe," a former Navy commander, a senior adviser at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, author of severl books, and, much to his dismay, very much in the news this week courtesy of the so-called "D.C. Madam," has accepted an invitation to do an interview. My plan is to go first with Harlan, beginning at 12:30, and then talk to JEFF GANNON immediately after. This will all fit into our usual hour, and should be timely and newsy. For one thing, it will be two perspectives on being at the eye of a Washington media whirlwind. Harlan's website is harlanullman.com. We met on David Burd's weekend show at Washington Post Radio. He is a columnist for the Washington Times and while having developed the doctrine of "shock and awe" used by the U.S. military at the outset of the Iraq war, he has since broken with the Bush adminstration. His new booked is "America's Promise Restored," which we will have for sale. Gannon, or real name James Dale Guckert, worked as an accredited White House correspondent for two years, representing Talon News, before other reporters attacked him as a "fraud," and for tossing softball questions to President Bush. Soon after it was revealed that he had another job with a gay escort service and also appeared naked on the website hotmilitarystud.com. He was questioned by investigators during the Valerie Plame affair because of an interview he did with her husband, Joseph Wilson. Gannon now operates a website, jeffgannon.com, which he calls "a voice of the new media." Thursday will be a very interesting Q&A Cafe. I hope you can join us. For reservations please call Jon Moss at 202.338.2000 weekdays between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., or reply here. The doors open at noon, the program begins at 12:30, and the fee is $35, all inclusive. There's an old saying - "the proof is in the puddng". If a broadcast outlet or show truly is racially sensitive, there's really no reason to billboard that fact. It's already pretty obvious. Running one or two shows on race relations without a continuing committment to the subject is actually an admission that the broadcast outlet or show is more concerned about tapping into the issue of the moment than anything else. It's a start, but not much more than that. As soon as the next celebrity divorce comes up, or some attractive woman is missing in the Caribbean, the shows will move on. There are plenty of plug-ins for Macs that will run the same content from all of these various websites, but the stupid IT people of these organizations have kick-out routines automatically set-up so that if you do not have WMP 9 running, the video content will not run even though you may have the correct substitute plug-in and it is a supported media type. I'm in York County, PA on the MD/PA line & I was a former Adelphia customer who's system was hijacked, I mean bought by Comcast during that whole bankruptcy mess. We never had the NFLN with Adelphia, so I figured we would get it when Comcast took over, it is on the Comcast system & I have family in Harford & Baltimore Counties in MD who get it. Well, apparently, anyone on a former Adelphia system can't have the NFLN while Comcast & the NFL are suing each other over how much Comcast will pay per subscriber & where the network will be placed, whether on basic cable where the NFL wants it or on digital where Comcast wants it. Last I heard, Comcast was balking at paying the NFL's new rate of $0.70 per subscriber, which doesn't seem like much compared to the $2 per month we have to pay for MASN. If I had to pick, I would rather have the NFLN than Angelos' crappy station, & it would cost me less. & I am a Baltimore Orioles fan. O, by the way, we get the Comcast Baltimore/Washington station here on basic cable, but get Comcast Philadelphia in HD. Last night they had the Phillies/Houston game on in HD. Beautiful picture, the first baseball game I have ever seen in HD. At the same time, the Angelos network was showing the O's in SD. I switched the 2 games back & forth & asked my 9 year old son which game looked better. He said the Phillies game. He then asked me how come the Orioles game didn't look the same. I told him thanks to the owner of the Orioles, Peter Angelos. He said O, that man you always tell me has ruined the Orioles & the reason we don't go see them anymore. I said yes son as I thought about will he ever see the Orioles as I did growing up, 1 of the best teams in MLB? Of course, the answer came quickly, not as long as that idiot billionaire Angelos & his family have their hands in it. If WTWP shows no sign of recovering from its ratings slump, that might be another station to consider. RE: WNWK and other marginal AMs... With the many marginal AMs-especially class 'C' and 'D' operations-having difficulty surviving, maybe it's time to consider having certain schools obtain some of these stations. It would give these schools added visibility and would give these stations a new lease on life. In certain cases, multi school co-ops could be formed. IMO, WNWK might be a station that would benefit from such a move. Closer to home, WYCB might benefit form such a move (perhaps becoming the new WMUC). Former Baltimore air personality Gary Helton has an excellent book about an area of Baltimore city known As HIGHLANDTOWN. The 127 pages are filled with tons of photos and an absolute must for anyone that lived in or near the Highlandtown area. I do think however that it should be noted that the Ed Norris Show on WHFS in Baltimore has already done one entire show devoted to race relations in America last December, and they plan to do another soon. The topic of race is also a common theme on the program. I urge anyone who is truly interested in the subject to tune in to Ed's show. It's some of the most intelligent and fair radio today. She's the first right wingnut I've heard fire a shot across the bow of Sharpton, et al, in what appears to be the opening salvo of a right-wingnut sponsored backlash against the charlatan 'reverends' of the activist black movement. I cannot believe Ingraham was making sense to me. I must be racist to think Sharpton and his egregiously hypocritical cronies are rubbing their fat hands together, exalting in the god-delivered opportunity to pout their lips in self-righteous dismay at the Imus incident. WB Centreville, VA (4/13/07) I disagree about Snyder's plans.... Snyder buying Class B/big-signaled WINC 92.5 would be more interesting than WMAL or AM 730. If the station is grandfathered (I don't know), and since he would own both, Snyder could simultaneously apply to move BOTH 92.5 AND 92.7 AT THE SAME TIME, one into the DC market (WINC) and the later further away from the new DC area WINC. Maybe he'd move 92.7 further south to the Calvert Cliffs area? I'm sure there would be some other conflicts that I haven't considered yet (Radio One's weak-signaled to DC WERQ 92.3 one of them), but owning 2 adjacent FM frequencies certainly would give him a lot more wiggle room to scheme, that's for sure. And probably a lot more chance of a zoning approval than an AM 730 multi-tower monstrosity which the NIMBYS love to hate with passion. (4/13/07) Dave's response: Yeah, Snyder could move both stations east - 92.5 to, say, Manassas, and 92.7 to an island in the Chesapeake Bay. He'd still have to deal with WERQ at 92.3. He's still listed on the site but I haven't seen him on Channel 11 news for months. (4/13/07) Dave's response: The official word from the station is that he's taking some vacation time..... I wonder when CBS will begin to clean up MTV, VH1 and BET? Seems like if they are going to make a company policy it should be applicable to every CBS entity. What about the female jokes and the sexist character comments by Charlie Sheen on Two and a Half Men, CBS top sit com? And other CBS sitcoms? Is it all going to change? I think not.... (4/13/07) So it is now been reported that last night's meeting involved some payments by Imus and the companies he worked for to Rutgers and the basketball players. Turns out that the acceptance of the "apology" was bought and paid for and that the meeting may have been more of a negotiating session than anything else. I'm think I'm going to buy my "Nappy-headed Hos" t-shirt on Ebay. They are for sale and going fast. By the way, how much more bizarre can it get than Corzine's crash. I usually enjoy it when grandstanding politicians get their just due, but that's a bit too much. (4/13/07) Enclosed you will find a copy of the coverage map for the station Dan SNyder is eyeing. Take a look at the city grade contour. It barely covers half the DC area. He's just replacing one set of complaints for another.
Possibly he could move the stick east. Maybe not because of ajacency problems???
Not a wise move on Mr. Snyder's part! I'm beginning to think he really doesn't want to spend a lot of money on his radio properties.
That's a shame!
Alvin G. Lawton (4/13/07)Dave's response: Well, Snyder could get rid of the 94.3 signal in Warrenton. A combination of 92.5 in Winchester with 92.7 in Prince Frederick, plus a better AMer (either 730 with a night signal or another AMer - WMAL perhaps?), might just be the ticket to decent coverage of the DC metro..... What if Imus had hired somebody like Robin Quivers to say the offending line? I wonder where we'd be with this story then. A different outcome? (4/13/07) More on the Orioles press pass / MASN debate in The SUN blogs.baltimoresun.com... And The SUN attacks Washington's poor performing sports teams! www.baltimoresun.com (4/13/07) I hear Limbaugh is not doing his show today because he's have the racist blood pumped from his system, in light of the whole Imus mess. (4/13/07) (Channel 11's ) Rod is simply on vacation. We are out of sweeps and he has been here for 100 years.... (4/13/07) I was listening to the replay of the Steve Czaban show on xm. He honored Jackie Robinson throughout. Yea.....he's a racist all right. On a side note Dave, why did you edit out my "It's only racist when white people do it" comment at the end of my last post? I thought that was a little strange. (4/13/07) “I noticed that the second-biggest waste of space on the Bawlamer AM dial, WFBR (formerly WJRO) is off the air.” Didn’t WFBR go off the air about 20 years ago? (4/13/07) Dave's response: The WFBR calls used to be on 1300 AM in Baltimore. The station is still on the air as sports talker WJFK-AM..... Just approved by the FCC again, Newark Delaware's AM 1260 is off the air again. This time they've lost their studio site. Ok, let me get this straight, this station has had no transmitter site for possibly a dozen years, now no studio, and the FCC just keeps giving these SAME owners (despite what their constant ownership shift BS filings say) one Special Temporary Authority after another after another after another and the owners are still allowed to keep the license???? Why is the public's airwaves being pissed down a sewer drain by the FCC????? Is this person connected to the Bush administration or something? If an MLB team didn't show up for games for a week, MLB would pull the franchise. If a company didn't report earnings, the NYSE would drop them and the FEC would be investigating them criminally. Why is a radio station not broadcasting for years allowed to still hold a license???? Yes, the FCC allows people to just waste, warehouse, and misuse the public's airwaves on a daily basis without anyone even noticing! Who gives a rats ass about Imus, he's a nothing and its a nothing story IMHO. I can probably count on 1 hand the # of black people who actually heard the comment directly and were offended! Yet un-sexy government waste stories like this that are more important just get ignored. The media should be ashamed of themselves and have trouble sleeping at night if they had any consciences. (4/13/07) RE: Nasty Nestor & O's Press passes....... I'm not a big fan of Nestor's schtick, but I was once told by a former head of the Maryland Stadium Authority that his own personal paid-in-full Orioles season tickets were never mailed out to him by The Baltimore Orioles during a time that the Orioles were fighting with the Stadium Authority over parking issues around Camden Yards. After getting a run-around from the Orioles offices up until Opening Day and having no tickets, that person had to actually go directly to Peter Angelos's office and demand his season tickets in person, which he then received from the desk of Mr. Angelos's secretary. Apparently, an accident of course. So believe me, the man may not know how to run a successful baseball team, but he sure knows how to play hardball. (4/13/07) Request to you media types reading this mailbag: Stop & think about what your sensationalizing of this Imus mess is doing. Think about the larger effect this has on our society’s view of race relations. Both blacks and whites have self segregated today. We don’t live together, socialize together, or even eat lunch at work together. Nobody is pursuing MLK’s dream, and nobody seems to care anymore. This just further divides us. It tells black people that all white people are just one comment away from being racist, and tells white people that you better never discuss anything serious with black people unless you want to lose your job. It just keeps pushing us apart. Think of what would have happened if Imus has dedicated his next 8 shows to a racial harmony love in, rather than ugly fighting over whether or not he should be fired. What if his apology had been accepted, and the episode used to promote understanding of why the comment was hurtful, where the line is, and why it shouldn’t be crossed? That would have been a positive thing for race relations. But alas, that is not the agenda of the people involved. When Don Imus and Al Sharpton get to define the conversation, it isn’t likely to be positive. You in the media have a duty to society to be a bit more high minded than the idiots personally involved in this mess. Please step up to the plate. (4/13/07) Who the hell is this "Ed Graham" clown whose post suggests that anyone who disagrees with what happened to Imus is a "racist". What a crock. Fact is, Imus is a jerk and should have retired years ago, but he got railroaded by a bunch of whiny, race baiting demagogues. And I suspect that Graham is just another p.c. hypocrite who preaches tolerance only when the views involved are something he wants to hear. (4/13/07) Just for the record, Snyder cannot put Imus on in the mornings on Triple X. Part of the ESPN Radio contract (unless you were grandfathered in prior to this change, I don't know the year but predates Triple X by a lot) he has no choice. It is not an option. Anything else he can go over since its not an O-n-O station but not Mike and Mike. (4/13/07) I'm several days late, and several dollars short, but amidst the barrage of Imus-related mail, let me mention that I heard Rebecca Roberts substituting for Hilary Howard, I think, on Washington Post Radio last week. Does anyone know if she has a regular gig at WaPo Radio? She sounded good, not "bubbly" but straight-ahead and polished. Christian (4/13/07) I wonder if these guys at CBS Radio's Free FM 97.1 in Los Angeles will be the next to fall? 971freefm.com (4/13/07) Here's where I'm confused....will the man who called the Rutgers players "Hardcore Ho's" be dismissed for his part in the exchange of pleasantries with Mr. Imus? Ot was it the one-two punch of "nappy-headed" and "ho's" that did Mr. Imus in solo? Had he just called them "hardcore ho's" like the other guy, would we have been as morally outraged (*cough*) as we are? Would Al "thug" Sharpton have stepped in? (4/13/07) CBS & MSNBC exercised their right, but far from "ALL radio hosts" spend their time denigrating others, in fact, it's the tiniest fraction of radio hosts who have the leeway to freely babble. And to the poster who claims the likes of Sharpton and Jackson have had nothing to do with exploiting and creating the Imus media frenzy, you are simply showing your own personal bias. Issues like this always raise the temperature of the debate because of the cultural and historical legacies and the concurrent double standards. Imus crosssed the line, like he has many times before, and this time it cost him his job. But who gets to define what is humor and what is racially insensitive, Sharpton, Jackson, and alike ? Imus and Sharpton are two peas in a pod. Sharpton : "He says he (Imus) wants to be forgiven, I hope he continues in that process. But we cannot afford a precedent established that the airways can commercialize and mainstream sexism and racism." A precedent ? LOL..thats funny. Ok, fair enough, now that Sharpton has Imus' scalp hanging from his tunic, it would be reasonable to expect him to devote his energies to clean up the rest of the airwaves from mysoginistic and racially insensitive clatter. But we all know, we won't hear a peep from him until the next media bandwagon starts to rev on some other issue concerning race. I can't stand Imus, but those who deny the free speech component within this issue are completely ignorant. 10 million Pollocks are waiting for an apology. Why would anyone publish another Ann Coulter book ? Why wasn't she forced to apologize to John Edwards or the Gay nation, or forced to march in a gay pride parade ? Oh, that's right..it was a joke. Ever listen to political talk on WPFW ? Def Comedy Jam ? How about all the big corporations making millions off the violent, hateful, and misogynistic rap music that is played over the public airwaves on a daily basis? These are absolutely issues indirectly linked to Imus, if we are going to expect everyone to play nice in public, as defined by some fuzzy line you only know after you cross it, or based on the expectation of others to what in their mind is fair, considered art, humor, or simply hateful. It is absolutely fair for people to bring up ancillary issues and examples, when the word police gang up and make a mountain out of a mole hill. Obviously Imus was expendable, and probably for his accumulated litany of similar statements, he crossed the line and I personally won't miss him. But I think we all need to be wary of the forces and methods by which free speech maybe impinged. Hateful speech need not be tolerated by an employer, but Imus aside, lets remember humor is subjective, those who may howl at a Chris Rock concert will probably sit stone faced watching some British comedy on PBS. Racist, sexist, and denigrating humor is as strong as ever. It comes in all various shades, subtleties, and from all corners and colors of our diverse nation. The Imus situation is notable outside of the general debate, because the forces aligned against him got their way, and because it raises flags about what the next high profile free speech issue the political correctness crowd will champion. Maybe next time it will be less clear cut. Imus, was after all an easy target in the grand scheme. And for all our expended hot air on this subject, just like the Michael Richards debacle with all the pontificating and debate after his N word fiasco, nothing at all will change, outside of few white djs scratching "nappy" and "Ho's" from their lexicon. (4/13/07) We had Anna Nicole shoved down out throats for weeks and weeks. Not it's Imus. ENOUGH111111111 I don't care!!!!!!!!!! JohnnyuinHanover,Pa. (4/13/07) In an amazing fit of nothing-to-do-for-a-few-minutes, I noticed that the second-biggest waste of space on the Bawlamer AM dial, WFBR (formerly WJRO) is off the air. How long has this been going on? And I'm getting "KHZTV.com on your radio" on 810, with a VERY weak signal (practically inaudible on my Grundig/Eton S350 without the help of a Select-a-Tenna) here in SW Bawlamer County--that sounds like it could be a cool station if they would toss a livelier hamster on the wheel at the transmitter. (4/13/07) so much for all those theories that Bonneville picked the WXGG calls for George 104 because it was going to sell to Red Zebra! Another example of the masterful spin job constantly being done by Bennett. The people that believed this rumor are probably the same people that believe he quit. And the same people that think he wasn't involved in the decision to purchase those 3 crappy signals. If he wasn't involved in the decision to buy them, then he would be equally stupid for taking the position as the glorified GM of a doomed business plan. (4/13/07) At the risk of being labeled a racist (actually it’s no risk—we have a week’s worth of postings that guarantee it), I do think there’s something that needs to be said regarding Don Imus. I’ve listened to the guy for more than 30 years, in Cleveland, NYC & via network. Hundreds of shows. Heard a lot of bad jokes, a lot of good jokes. Heard more than I really wanted to about the ranch. Heard some of the funniest shit ever on radio from Bernard McGurk. Heard hours of chat with politicians I can’t stand, especially Joe Lieberman. And through all of that, never heard a racist word come out of his mouth—or Bernie’s or anyone else on that show. Plenty of insults, sure. And a certain amount of invective, usually directed at some hypocritical politician—though usually not reaching the everyday level of a Limbaugh or Hannity. But never anything racist. Yes, I’ve read about his Gwen Ifill comment, and now the Rutgers line, which together have been portrayed as a “string” of racial insults and a “history” of racial comments. But the overwhelming body of Don Imus’ on-air work—what? 30,000+ hours behind the mike, altogether?—could never, by any stretch of the imagination, be labeled “racist.” So where did last week’s piling-on come from? From people who never listened to the guy? From people who wrongly equated Imus with Stern? (BTW, what’s all this “shock jock” shit? He was NEVER a “shock jock”). From people who just saw an opportunity to kick around a famous member of “The Media?” I dunno. I just know that most of it had very little to do with the reality of the well-documented, everyday, 35-year career of Don Imus. (4/13/07) If my addled mind can remember correctly: I think the humorous use of the word "ho" was first used by Eddie Murphy on Saturday Night Live back around 1982 , when he was doing fake TV commercials as a pimp selling mail-order records of his "ho-s" (it was a way of taming the real word for the purpose of humor and for the NBC censors). Then it got used by everyone and became a common insulting catch-phrase. Eddie Murphy was saying it to be humorous about pimps (procurers and "managers" of ladies of the night) by humorously portraying them as just your typical honest businessmen just out to make a buck. As he himself said on the show one evening, "(approx.) I ain't no Garrett Morris token anymore! "(approx). Remember, Mr. Murphy was and is a very, very intelligent and clear-thinking actor (not like Charles Rocket who was on at around the same time, and accidentally made a fool of himself by using one of the 7 banned words, and it wasn't "tits"). Everything Mr. Murphy said on that show was said with a clear intent and satiric or humorous purpose. It's a shame that a funny phrase got turned into a standard insult, and eventually a talk-show host who got a little overexuberant using that insult during a comedic piece got his life ruined. But I personally believe that when Eddie Murphy used it in a clever context back in 1982, he was damned funny. -- Carl in Olney (4/13/07) DCRTV: Do you know what's up with Rod Daniels at WBAL TV (Channel 11) in Baltimore? He hasn't been on the air for a number of weeks and the last few times he was on he looked terrible. Is he ill? Contract issues? Stan Stovall has taken over his role, and quite frankly is much better than Rod, but it's strange how Rod has disappeared without a word. Stan doesn't even say he's subbing for Rod when he signs on. Lisa Robinson, whose taken over for Stan in the mornings does say she's subbing for Stan. What's the deal? In a related note, today is Domenica Davis' last day at BAL. Can't say that I'll miss her. She is a decent enough weathercaster, but the stuff they had her doing on the morning news - "Hi, I'm Domenica Davis at Fells Point and it's cold out here you'll" was pretty lame. However, she's parlayed her BAL experience into a gig at FOX NEWS in NYC. It doesn't get any better than that! BAL has become a training ground for ex-BALers - Sade Baderinwa, Jeff Pegues. I guess B'more's got it going on in the news business. A BAL news watcher (4/13/07) Hey Dave, I commute from Frederick, MD out to the Winchester/Martinsburg area most every day. The only HD you get clearly in Frederick is 99.9 WFRE (Free Country), they don't have any side channels. Sometimes you can pick up 106.5, 107.3, or 99.5 in HD, depending on the weather. I get to Baltimore on the weekends, and they have a good offering on HD: 93.1 WPOC (country) has "The Wolf" on HD 2 (new country)...... 97.9 "98 Rock" has 2 side channels - "Classic 98 Rock" on HD2, featuring the old red and black 98 logo (classic98rock.com) and "Indie 97.9" on HD3 (indie979.com)..... 102.7 Jack FM's HD 2 is ESPN Radio..... 105.7 HFS/Free FM's HD2 is "HFS2" (Baltimore's alternative) (whfs2.com)..... 106.5 "Mix 106-5"'s HD2 is "Mix2" (CHR)..... (4/13/07) To the thin skinned POS, that wants Czaban and the Junkies Fired. What about all the BLACK RADIO shows that CONSTANTLY blast white, asian hispanic people???? You racist ASS! Also, I noticed you don't have a problem with Jessie "Hymie town "Jackson or Al Sharpton. These two are race baiters who PERPETUATE racism by only going after white people. Where is the apology from them regarding the DUKE issue. They grandstanded and decided that they were guilty before knowing ANY facts. Same goes with the HATE group, Black Panthers. Also the on campus womens group who put up fliers, pictures and protested against the 3 with NO FACTS. How about the duke GROUP of 88! Where is the god damn apology? All of these racism issues are dividing this country not bringing us together. You are a racist and a coward! Who ever you are. (4/13/07) "I wish Steve Czaban and the Junkies would have an 'Imus Moment' so that we can get those racist clowns off the air." What about Steve Harvey? Or Al Sharpton? Or Whoopi? What about them you over sensitive baby? (4/13/07) Why weren’t Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson this outraged when a left-wing radio host from Milwaukee named John Sylvester referred to Condoleezza Rice as an “Aunt Jemima”? (Source: www.msnbc.msn.com). As if that wasn’t bad enough, the guy refused to apologize to Rice, and took it a step further by apologizing to Aunt Jemima for comparing her to Rice (Source: www.10news.com) . And Sylvester STILL has his job! No protests from the NAACP no protests from the Rainbow Push Coalition, no 24 hour news coverage of the story, no calls from Jesse or Al and so many other self proclaimed civil rights leaders for Sylvester to be fired, and no threats to boycott the station’s sponsor over Sylvester’s blatant racist remarks. Does anyone honestly think there would have been the same silent treatment if a conservative commentator made that comment about a black female Democrat? Would Ed Norris still have his job with CBS radio if he called Baltimore Mayor Shelia Dixon ”Aunt Jemima”? Or if anyone at WMAL said the same thing about DC Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton? What’s even more interesting is how Sylvester’s racist comments about Secretary Rice—and the silence from the civil rights industry when it happened--hasn’t even come up at all during the wall-to-wall Imus/Sharpton coverage. I’m smelling a bit of a double standard here when it comes to the so-called objective, “non-biased” media, and when it comes to so-called “civil rights” leaders. WCBM’s Tom Marr is right when he refers to the NAACP as the NAASCP—the National Association for the Advancement of “Some” Colored People. This is a textbook example of how accurate that reference is. They just don’t seem to have the same level of outrage when racist comments are made about people with names like Condoleezza Rice, Janice Rogers Brown, Colin Powell, Michael Steele, etc………especially when the racist comments are made by lefties. It just gets swept under the rug, and the national media simply looks the other way. (4/13/07) Personally, if I were Mr. Imus, I would sue NBC. NBC being part of the GE corporate brand, which also owns such record labels as Sony/BMG and many others that employ rappers, doesn't have a leg to stand on. This whole thing is about white guilt anyway. So how will those white execs look when on the stand trying to defend employing rappers who use the same or even more inflamatory language? I say sue Mr. Imus...sue the shit out of them....WB Centreville, VA (4/13/07) Hey Dave, I can relate to your frustrations in attempting to pick up local AM stations in HD. I live in D.C., less than seven miles from 50,000 watt WTWP, and while my radio (a Boston Acoustics Recepter HD) gets enough data to make the HD indicator blink and display the call letters, it's a rare occasion when the full digital audio comes through. The only area AMer that I can reliably pick up in HD is WTEM. With WTNT, I sometimes get a flashing HD indicator, but never an actual HD signal. And 1450 WOL is supposedly broadcasting in HD, but I can't get that station at all. As for the FM stations, I've gotten similar results to what you've reported, but I have observed that stations really aren't taking their HD streams very seriously at this point. DC101's HD-2 stream was broadcasting dead air this morning, and the HD was completely absent from 100.3. And while having a relay of WTMD here in town is great, the signal seems to drop out for a second or two every 20 minutes or so. If I had to guess, I'd say that WAMU is getting their audio from WTMD via their web stream, and it is occasionally re-buffering due to network congestion. -jason (4/13/07) Dave's response: Yes, indeed. The WTMD feed via WAMU HD does suffer the occasional dropout, and the audio quality sounds a bit "tinny"..... I figure that I just won't patronize the sponsors of Al Sharpton. You can boycott his advertisers as easily as he can Imus's. I went to the Sharpton Show website here www.sharptontalk.net and lookie there, McDonalds, on another page Walmart! There's 2 that jump right out for you. Perhaps white people should shop at Target this weekend and take their kids to Burger King or Wendy's. I guess I'll have to listen to WOL 1450 am from 1-4 to get other sponsors. Also, when I'm done with my list of sponsors, I'll figure out who their media buyers are and e-mail them rather then the actual corporations. You see the corporations don't really care, the media buyers are the ones who live in your communities with home mortgages and kids in college, they will listen a fold like a cheap tent lest they have to move out of Chevy Chase to a "less" desirable neighborhood. You can visit these sites and send them e-mail too. Tell them you are tired of being held hostage by the likes of Sharpton and you'll have a joke about any goddamned person you want while you DON'T patronize anyone advertising with Sharpton. My e-mail is boycottsharpton@hotmail.com if you care to comment directly with a couple of white guys who know the difference between true racism and bigotry and a tasteless (yet harmless) joke. Your identy will never be revealed and we'd like to hear what you have to say, or more importantly, what are you gonna do about it? (4/13/07) Dave, Not sure when you were trying to listen to our HD signal, but WMAR TV has been working on converting their microwave equipment on and off over the last 2 weeks or so. When the tower guys are up on the stick, we have to reduce power. We are on full power today, so give us another shot. Kerry Plackmeyer, Assistant Chief Engineer, WBAL-AM 1090, WIYY-FM 97.9, WIYY HD2, WIYY HD3 (4/13/07) Dave's response: Thanks Kerry. I'll be doing an update to DCRTV's HD Radio page real soon and will address that..... Oh please - Imus is fired and now it's all about the kids at his ranch and what a great guy he is. Claiming that he does good works elsewhere in life doesn't mean he has carte blanche to do or say anything he wants in his professional life. All of us face consequences if we cross over the line with management in our jobs. He should be no different. I'm frankly of tired of ALL radio hosts who spend their time on the air denegrating others. That's not humor - it's meanspirited and is known as bullying. BTW - Jerry Lewis raised millions for kids for decades, without a daily radio show. Maybe Imus will also find other ways of fundraising for the ranch now that he has more time on his hands. (4/13/07) So many racists, so little time. I'm really saddened by the battle that seems to be surrounding Imus on this board. I said Imus should be fired in a post right after the incident happened. Those of you who are writing about Sharpton and Jackson, just don't understand. Or maybe you do. Sharpton and Jackson have nothing to do with Imus and his firing. He held a position of trust and blew it. Imus knows this. The real test will come when he hooks up with Sirius or XM. If his new program is more racist, or less. CBS and NBC have been condoning this crap for years. Ed Graham (4/13/07) Hi Dave, Wanted to know if you'd like updates on College Park's scrappy little 10-Watter, WMUC 88.1. Wasn't sure if we were under your radar or not. You mentioned us last February in a story about WYPR's proposed power boost. As of today, that increase has not happened, and we are still on the air. When (or if) it happen, WMUC's FM signal will _not_ be obliterated. We had an engineering study done which shows that we will certainly be affected, and our coverage will be squeezed to the UMD campus only. Recent coverage: www.diamondbackonline.com... www.diamondbackonline.com... We're working on a few options to make sure that we stay on the air, and if you like, we can keep you posted with newstips. Bottom line - the DC area's last student-run college FM station is not going off the air. Cheers! -Scotty (4/13/07) I've noticed a lot of people are complaining of too much Imus coverage and that the media is over blowing the situation. Well, duh! Just look at this site as an example. How many posts to you see from readers who have their opinion of the whole Imus situation. You balk at the media covering it, which for them is a wise situation as it attracts more viewers, thus leading to higher ratings, thus leading to more advertising dollars, but it's ok to write 5 paragraph essays on why you hate it or what your feelings are of the situation. Their "over blowing" of this is a direct correlation to their viewers interests. Every day since Imus has said what he said, people are talking about it. It's only going to die down when people shut up. I link this to the whole Sanjaya on idol thing. He's only on there because people talk about him, so they know him. If people ignored him, nobody would vote for him, and he would have been |
