This award reaches beyond those usually awarded Creator, Host and

for television news and production. The Board of Executive Producer

Governors Award recognizes achievements by MotorWeek

Ted Yates Award Ray Farkas

Ted Yates was an NBC News producer who (Posthumously)

traveled the world on assignment. Killed in Network & Freelance News

the practice of his profession, he is remembered Field Producer and

The 50^th Emmy Awards

Washington, DC - June 14, 2008 --- More than 500 broadcasters from Maryland, Virginia and the

District of Columbia gathered tonight for The 50^th Emmy Awards held at The Ritz-Carlton in

Washington, DC. The ceremony is sponsored by the National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter

of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

Guest hosts for the evening were Barry Levinson (Academy Award-winning Director),

Christopher Meloni (Emmy Award-nominated Lead Actor, “Law & Order SVU”),

Tony Perkins (Chief Meteorologist “WTTG Fox 5 Morning News”), Mika Brzezinski

(Co-Host MSNBC’s “Morning Joe”), and Bob Heck (Host: “Bob The Vid Tech”, Maryland

Public Television). VIP Reception host was Arch Campbell (Entertainment Critic, WJLA/ABC7).

Awards for excellence were presented in 77 categories, in addition to the Special Awardees

for the Board of Governors Award John Davis (Maryland Public Television) and the Ted Yates Award Ray Farkas (Posthumously) (Network & Freelance News Field Producer and

TV Documentarian).

The Emmy Award submissions, which totaled 824 this year, were broadcast between

January 1 and December 31, 2007 and judged by panels assembled by Academy Chapters in

Chicago/Midwest, Heartland, Lone Star, Lower Great Lakes (Cleveland), Mid-Atlantic,

Pacific Southwest, and Suncoast.

The Awards Committee reviewed the unidentified totals prepared by the accounting firm of

Lively, Ostrye & Worch, P.C. for the purpose of determining the number of awards to be given.

Based on the scores, the Awards Committee determined the Emmy nominations and awardees.

The Emmy Award recognizes excellence; therefore, in each category, one award, more than one award, or no award may be given.

The National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences was established in 1958-59 and is an organization comprised of more than 700 television broadcast professionals dedicated to fostering and recognizing outstanding achievements in television production throughout the National Capital Chesapeake Bay region.
